Twenty-nine colors, DMC 317 to DMC 3855, is a wide range for a 40cm canvas. That is what lets the kiwi be its own green, the grapes their own purple and the frosting its own pink, rather than everything borrowing from one shared set of mid-tones and going muddy where the objects touch.

Roughly 15 to 20 hours, which makes it a sane first kit. The trade-off for 29 colors on a small canvas is a lot of switching between small blocks, so lay the packets out in number order before you start rather than digging through the bag each time you change shade. Kit only, not a finished picture, and no frame. Unroll the canvas and weight it flat overnight.

It belongs in a kitchen, where nobody has ever objected to too much fruit at once.
