Halloween decorating is mostly a porch problem. The door gets a wreath, the steps get pumpkins, and then the kitchen table — the one everybody actually sits at — gets nothing, because everything made for a table is either enormous or a bowl of candy you have already started eating. This is the small thing that goes in the middle.

A round-bellied cauldron in matte black, standing on three tapered legs with a loop handle on either side of the rim. The body is cut through with a lattice of small diamond openings all the way around. A separate brew disc, printed in green, drops into the mouth of the pot — a surface of rising bubbles, most of them the size of a pea, one big enough to look like it is about to break. The LED tealight sits underneath. The light comes up green through the bubbles and out through every diamond in the lattice.

Why the brew is its own piece. The obvious way to make this is one black pot with a candle dropped inside, and from across the room that is a dark lump with a glow in the bottom of it. Printing the brew separately, in green, puts a lit surface at the top of the pot where your eye already goes, so the cauldron reads as full instead of empty — and it gets two colors of light out of one candle. The disc lifts straight out when the battery needs changing. The matte finish on the body is deliberate too: gloss would throw highlights along the lattice and compete with the cutouts, and the cutouts are the whole point.

Straight talk. LED tealight only, never a real one. PLA softens well below the temperature of a burning wick, and an open flame inside a pierced shell is exactly the wrong place for it. The LED candle and a set of batteries are in the box, so there is nothing to buy before you light it tonight. It is a candle holder, not a candy dish — the brew disc fills the mouth of the pot and there is nowhere to put treats. It is decor, not a kit: no drills, no canvas, no tools. Keep it out of hot cars and off sunny windowsills. Fine layer lines are visible up close, and no two come out identical.

The table finally gets something.
